Artistic career

After graduating from school, Kaiser began an apprenticeship as a stonemason and stone sculptor at the Cologne Dombauhütte in 1974 . Subsequently, from 1977 to 1978 he worked as a freelancer and student of the Cologne sculptor Elmar Hillebrand (1925–2016). After obtaining his technical college entrance qualification , he began studying at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences in the sculpture class of Hans Karl Burgeff , which he completed in 1985. Kaiser exhibited his work while still a student and accepted commissions from church and private clients. Since 1978 he has been a freelance artist in his own studio and sculpture garden in the south of Cologne. There he organizes musical matinée events under the name "Kaiser-Skulpturen" in spring and summer.

Kaiser calls his characteristic work “Architectural Sculpture”, which includes his sculptural analysis of the “interweaving of horizontal and vertical structures with the penetration of spatial bodies”. He works with the classic sculptural materials tuff stone , sandstone , shell limestone , Savonnier limestone , terracotta , plaster and bronze . He makes his bronze sculptures using the bronze casting technique developed by Elmar Hillebrand . Kaiser's work is also characterized by its figurative sculpture, as can be seen in a sacred context, for example, in the churches of St. Georg in Cologne-Weiß and St. Maternus and St. Joseph in Cologne-Rodenkirchen (Joseph's statue). 4 of the 106 Cologne council tower figures come from his hand, showing Sulpiz Boisserée (1784–1854), Georg Simon Ohm (1784–1854), Peter Heinrich Merkens (1777–1854) and Rupert von Deutz (around 1065–1129).
