Stefan Nilsson (composer)
Stefan Nilsson (born July 27, 1955 in Övertorneå ) is a Swedish composer who is best known for his film scores .
Nilsson studied piano and composition in Framnäs and Stockholm . He worked as a musician, in particular as a piano accompanist for various artists, including Anne Sofie von Otter and Elvis Costello . However, Nilsson achieved international fame primarily through his compositions for films, which even earned him a nomination for the European Film Prize. The music composed by Nilsson for the Oscar-nominated film Wie im Himmel was one of six nominations in the category Best Film Music in 2005 .
Works
In addition to the film music for Wie im Himmel , Nilsson also wrote the soundtracks for nine Kommissar Van Veeteren films (based on the novels by Håkan Nesser ), for several episodes of the series Kommissar Beck and other film adaptations of works by the Swedish duo of authors Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö . The films The Best Intentions and Pelle, the Conqueror by Bille August also became famous , the latter received the Oscar for best foreign language film in 1989 , after having received the Palme d'Or for best film the previous year . In 2005 Nilsson composed the first ballet music for a Pippi Longstocking Ballet at the Royal Stockholm Opera . Nilsson also worked as an opera composer with the opera Drakdödaren ( German: Drachentöter ).
Award
In 1998 Stefan Nilsson received the Guldbagge Prize for "Music that enriches both great film epics and comedies" .
