Stefan Pauer

Stefan Pauer (born November 23, 1922 in Wipfelhof in Waidmannsfeld , † December 4, 2011 ) was an Austrian mountaineer , photographer and mountain filmmaker .

Life

At the age of 13, Stefan Pauer climbed the summit of the Schneeberg alone . In the 1940s and 50s he climbed numerous mountains in the Western Alps: on the Monte Rosa floor, he single-handedly crossed the Lyskamm , Castor and Pollux to the Breithorn . Since 1954 he started filming and taking photos on his mountain tours. In 1955 he took part in the anniversary expedition of the Alpinists' Guild of Friends of Nature to Ruwenzori in Central Africa. This was followed by conquering Kilimanjaro . In 1957 Stefan Pauer filmed on an expedition to the volcanic mountains in East Africa, Mount Elgon , Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro. This film was televised in two parts.

Besides Heinrich Roiss and Franz Mandl he was in 1958 one of the three first man to climb Haramosh (7406 m) in Karakorum . The film material shot on the Haramosh was digitized in 2009 and presented at the Friends of Nature Mountain Film Festival. In 1959 he took part in the Dhaulagiri expedition under Fritz Moravec and in 1961 he was on the road with the Friends of Nature Alpinists' Guild in the Caucasus . Further first ascents in the Cordón de la Jaula in the Andes and on the Aconcagua (almost 7000 m) in America followed in 1966. On December 4, 2011, Stefan Pauer died at the age of 90.
