Stefan Schwer

Stefan Schwer (born October 30, 1902 in Düren ; † January 12, 1990 there ) was a German opera singer ( hero tenor ).

Life

After studying singing in Cologne and Oberhausen and from 1930 to 1931 at the Berlin Conservatory , he was engaged at the Essen Opera House from 1928 to 1930 . This was followed by an engagement at the Hamburg State Opera until 1939 . There he was discovered by the great conductor Karl Böhm . For 10 years, namely until 1949, he was the first hero tenor at the Kassel State Theater . There he took part in the world premiere of the opera The Clockmaker of Strasbourg by Hans Brehme (February 25, 1941). Since 1949 he was a member of the Stuttgart State Opera .

From 1934 he made guest appearances at home and abroad, for example in Amsterdam , Berlin, Vienna , Florence and Brussels . He sang Balthasar Zorn in the Meistersinger at the Bayreuth Festival from 1963 to 1964 . Schwer was a member of the Stuttgart State Opera until 1955, where he performed until 1978.

He spent his twilight years in his hometown Düren.

Towards the end of his career, he also took on roles from the character subject .
