overview

Stratil created as a director several animated short films . In his politically motivated animation, Prometheus (1983), he fictitiously addressed the struggle against the ruling class, although, similar to George Orwell's 1984, there was no happy ending for the protagonist. In cooperation with Bady Minck , Stefan Stratil developed the animated film The Man with Modern Nerves (1988). It addresses the dichotomy between body and soul in that the protagonist's spiritual heights are in contrast to his physical limitations - his broken leg. The short film I'm a Star! is inspired by Frank Sinatra . The lonely world of the protagonist between alcohol, cigarettes, empty hotel corridors and the fatal love for Ava Gardner is depicted in a state of intoxication. Framed by the music of Louie Austen , the animation of a comic strip is staged using different cinematic techniques. From abstract drawings to black-and-white photographs, Stefan Stratil uses various methods of representation to describe the distorted reality of the main character. Stratils short films such as The Man with Modern Nerves and I'm a Star! were shown at the international film festival in Cannes , at the international film festival in Rotterdam , at the Berlinale and at the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand .

In addition to some music videos, Stefan Stratil's work also includes drawings, illustrations and some comics for Austrian and international magazines. He has received many awards for his work for the advertising industry in the print and film sector. Among other things, he received the Golden Venus several times , which is awarded by the Art Directors Club of Austria .
