Hubert Sielecki (born November 6, 1946 in Rosenbach , Carinthia ) is an Austrian artist who is best known for his animated films .

Life

Hubert Sielecki studied from 1968 to 1973 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . He then received a foreign scholarship for animation and painting at the State University for Film, Television and Theater Łódź . Since 1982 he has been teaching experimental animation film in the master class Maria Lassnig (since 1991 master class Christian Ludwig Attersee ), (since 2009 Judith Eisler department ) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna , where he set up the studio for experimental animation film .

Hubert Sielecki has retired since March 1st, 2012. Since then, the studio has been continued by Niki Jantsch and Praved Krishnapilla. In 1985 Sielecki founded the Austrian section of the ASIFA Association internationale du film d'animation . In 1990/91 he received a teaching position for film at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig . From 1986 to 1991 he was a member of the film funding bodies in Austria . Hubert Sielecki was also a board member of the Künstlerhaus Wien .

From 1968 Hubert Sielecki made his first artistic attempts with film material. Animated films were also made, some of which he made together with Zbigniew Rybczyński . Sielecki's films are auteur films , in which he is mostly responsible for all areas of production, from script to film music. On some films he worked with writers like Gerhard Rühm , Antonio Fian , Gernot Wolfgruber , painters like Maria Lassnig , Tone Fink and musicians like Wolfgang Mitterer . Due to his specialization in animation film, Sielecki occupies a special position within the Austrian film avant-garde . Hubert Sielecki also produced cinema advertisements, including the festival trailers for the Austrian Film Days in 1987, 1988 and 1989 and eleven advertising films for Falter magazine from 1990 to 1998 .

Several films by Hubert Sielecki have been shown at film festivals in Germany, including the Berlinale , the Hamburg Short Film Festival , the Bochum Video Festival , the Bamberg Short Film Festival and the Regensburg Short Film Week . Sielecki was also represented outside of the German-speaking countries at important festivals such as the Hiroshima Kokusai Animation Festival and the Krakowski Festiwal Filmowy . In Austria itself, two festival participations are particularly noteworthy: at Diagonale 1995, where he received the short film award for Air Fright , and at Vienna Independent Shorts 2008, where a comprehensive retrospective of his film work was shown.

Since the 1960s, Hubert Sielecki has also created environments , object art and action art and has been represented at numerous exhibitions.
