Ștei ( Hungarian Vaskohsziklás ) is a small town in Bihor County in western Romania . It is located eighty kilometers from the district capital Oradea . In the immediate vicinity of the village are the small towns of Vaşcău (seven kilometers away) and Nucet (ten kilometers away).
Ștei as a city was founded in 1956 next to a small village of the same name when large quantities of uranium ore were temporarily mined in the nearby village of Băița .
From 1958 to 1990 the city was named Dr. Petru Groza , named after the politician Petru Groza .
