The Steinhübel Neuwürschnitz is a former quarry in Neuwürschnitz , which is now used as an open-air stage.

Decades ago, Melaphyr des Unterrotliegend was extracted in several quarries at Steinhübel . You can still see the rock at the break that has been converted into a forest stage . The melaphyre, a silica- poor basalt -like rock is dark gray to brown gray color. Its dense matrix, originally consisting of plagioclase (feldspar), augite , magnetite and other minerals, was changed by later decomposition processes. The larger intrusions of olivine and augite were also subject to a transformation into serpentine , calcite , etc. The approximately eight meter thick melaphyre ceiling is strongly fissured and is traversed by numerous movement zones, so that in places the image of a breccia emerges. White calcite often forms the covering of the joint surfaces. Almond stone structures are present in places, but not as widespread as on Steinberg near Pfaffenhain .

As early as the Middle Ages, a road led past Steinhübel that came up from the Glauchau - Lichtenstein area and crossed the Ore Mountains southwards . In 1554, in a loan letter from the Saxon Elector to the Lords of Wildenfels, this street and a Vorwerk of the Oelsnitz manor on Steinhübel are mentioned. A deep pond filled with water, the black hole , is the remainder of a mining attempt from 1728, when the Oelsnitz manor lords had it mined here in vain for minerals. The black hole is located directly in front of the entrance to the Waldbühne, in the area of the Neuwürschnitz Forest Baths .

Today the Waldbühne is mainly used for open air concerts and open film screenings .
