geography

Neuwürschnitz consists of two former independent locations: Oberwürschnitz and Neuwiese . The core of the settlement lies on both sides of the village green and follows the course of the Würschnitz. The valley hugs the foothills of the Erzgebirge foothills of the central western Saxon region. The village is bounded by mostly agricultural land and forests. In the south-west of the Beuthaer forest , in the north-west of the Oelsnitzer Kirchenforst , in the north the so-called sand pit and in the north-east the cave wood .

history
Neuwürschnitz was created in 1934 by amalgamating the previously independent towns of Oberwürschnitz (called Neuwürschnitz I during the National Socialist and Socialist period) and Neuwiese (previously: Neuwürschnitz II). After the fall of the Wall, Neuwürschnitz entered into an administrative partnership with the neighboring village of Niederwürschnitz . In the late 1990s, against the will of the majority of the population, Neuwürschnitz broke away from Niederwürschnitz and became part of the city of Oelsnitz / Erzgeb on January 1, 1999.
