history

The place name suggests that Steinsfeld originated in the 8th century. Steinsfeld is said to have been mentioned for the first time in 1260 and the place name changed from "Steinsuelt" to "Steinfelt" in 1319; However, this cannot be clearly proven.

In 1366 there was an imperial confirmation of goods for the Theres monastery , which owned the place. In the course of time, the Bamberg prince-bishop Albrecht von Wertheim , the Bamberg monastery and the Ebrach monastery also acquired properties in the village.

With regard to the Steinsfeld St. Sebastian Church , not all information is clear. This was created in the years 1721/22. According to an inscription, the renaissance- style pulpit dates from 1609, which indicates a previous church building.

Under the Würzburg bishop Georg Anton von Stahl , a parish curate was set up on April 17, 1851 in Steinsfeld, which until then had belonged to the parish of Haßfurt . Under Bishop Julius Döpfner , Steinsfeld became a parish on January 1, 1950 and was merged with the previous Haßfurt branch community of Wonfurt.

On May 1, 1978, Steinsfeld became part of Wonfurt as part of the municipal reform.
