Stenbjerg is a small municipality on the northwest coast of Denmark on the Thy peninsula . The next big city Aalborg is about 125 km northeast of Stenbjerg.

Like the neighboring village Vorupør, Stenbjerg belongs to the Thisted municipality . The place still lives partly from fishing , but above all from tourism , which can be seen in numerous holiday homes.

The small village church was built in 1895 in neo-Romanesque style. The roof turret had to replace the original bell tower in 1922 because the brick walls could not support its weight.

Stenbjerg Landingsplads is located on the beach : In the absence of a harbor, the landing area is used to pull fishing boats onto the beach. The old tool sheds used by commercial fishermen were saved from deterioration through civic engagement and are now a popular photo opportunity. The old lifeboat can be viewed in the rescue house .

The wild, romantic, barren surroundings of Stenbjerg were popular with painters in the 20th century: Jens Søndergaard , Peder Severin Krøyer and Marie Krøyer worked here, and later the Flensburg painter Käte Lassen came . Dedicated art lovers have set up a small memorial room in their house (Stenbjerg Kirkevej).

Stenbjerg has a wide, comparatively coarse sandy beach, behind which dunes rise. Depending on the wind conditions, there are good conditions for surfing on the beach . Hiking and cycling trails open up the area.
