Stephan Rittau

Stephan Rittau (born December 27, 1891 in Wongrowitz ; † August 22, 1942 near Rschew , USSR ) was a German officer , most recently Lieutenant General in World War II .

Life

Rittau joined the Prussian army on March 28, 1911 as a flag junior . He was promoted to lieutenant on August 18, 1912 . His officer's license as a lieutenant was postponed to August 28, 1910. Rittau served as an officer in the First World War .

He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Wehrmacht on September 1, 1935 and to colonel on March 1, 1938. On February 1, 1939, he became commander of the 12th Infantry Regiment. His promotion to major general took place on August 1, 1940. On October 1, 1940, he was commander of the 129th Infantry Division . Among other things, he took part in the double battle at Vyazma and Bryansk and in the battle for Moscow that followed. On August 1, 1942, he was appointed lieutenant general. He was killed at the Battle of Rzhev .
