Stephan Steingräber (born July 19, 1951 in Munich ) is a German etrusologist and classical archaeologist .

Stephan Steingräber, son of the art historian Erich Steingräber , received his doctorate in 1977 with a thesis on Etruscan furniture at the University of Cologne . His habilitation took place in 1994 at the University of Mainz , where he then taught as a private lecturer . After he was temporarily employed in the photo library of the German Archaeological Institute, Rome Department , he was appointed full professor for the archeology of the Mediterranean region at the University of Tokyo . He also taught in Germany, Italy, the USA and other Japanese cities. He currently teaches as Professor of Etruscology and Italian Cultures at the Università degli studi Roma Tre . Steingräber is a member of the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Etruschi ed Italici in Florence, the Accademia Etrusca in Cortona and is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute . So far he has published more than 130 publications in six languages, in which he primarily deals with the culture, art, topography and archeology of the Etruscans, but also the Magna Graecia . As a translator, for example, he did Massimo Pallottino's pre-Roman Italy .
