Stephan Weth

Stephan Weth (born January 30, 1956 in Trier ) is a German legal scholar .

Education and academic career

Weth was born to a lawyer. He attended elementary school in Kürenz and then the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Trier , where he passed his matriculation examination in 1974. In the same year he began studying law at Saarland University . After the first state examination in 1979, he completed his legal clerkship in Rhineland-Palatinate and passed the second state examination in 1982. Previously, the University of Saarland awarded him the degree of a licentiate in law .

From 1983 to 1986 he was a research assistant at Professor Hanns Prütting in Saarbrücken, then until 1994 research assistant / assistant at the Institute for Procedural Law at the University of Cologne . He received his doctorate summa cum laude in Saarbrücken in 1987 with a thesis on the rejection of late submissions in civil proceedings , for which he was awarded the Dr. Eduard Martin Prize. In 1991 he received the Rudolf von Bennigsen Foerder Prize awarded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for innovative projects by young scientists.

In 1993 Weth completed his habilitation at the University of Cologne in the subjects of civil law, civil procedural law and labor law . In February 1994 he was appointed professor at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg ( civil law and social security law). Since April 1995 he has been professor for German and European procedural and labor law as well as civil law in Saarbrücken. He is also director of the Institute for Labor and Social Law and, since 2005, co-director of the Institute for Legal Informatics . In 1997/98 he was the chairman of the law department, and from 2004 to 2006 he was dean of studies .

From 2012 to 2015 Weth was Dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics at Saarland University.

Administration of justice and politics

From 1982 to 1994 he worked as a lawyer. Since 2007 he has been a judge at the Saarland Higher Regional Court and since 2008 a judge at the Constitutional Court of the Saarland .

Weth is a member of the CDU and chairman of the board of the CDU city association Saarlouis . He has been a member of the Saarlouis City Council since 2000.
