Stephen Athipozhiyil

Stephen Athipozhiyil (born May 18, 1944 in Chennavely , Kerala , India ) is an Indian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Alleppey .

Life

Stephen Athipozhiyil received on 5 October 1969, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On 16 November 2000 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Coadjutor Bishop of Alleppey. The Bishop of Alleppey, Peter Michael Chenaparampil , donated him episcopal ordination on February 11, 2001 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Trivandrum , Maria Callist Soosa Pakiam , and the Bishop of Cochin , John Thattumkal SSC . On December 9, 2001, Stephen Athipozhiyil became Bishop of Alleppey, succeeding Peter Michael Chenaparampil, who resigned due to illness.

On October 11, 2019, Pope Francis accepted Stephen Athipozhiyil's motion to resign on grounds of age.
