National team

United States

Purdy was part of several United States youth national selections. In 2007 he was called up to play a game for the United States national soccer team. In the game against Switzerland he was not used.

El Salvador

Purdy, whose ancestors come from El Salvador, announced in an interview in 2010 that he would like to play for the national team of the Central American country. Former national coach Carlos de los Cobos also announced that he wanted Purdy as a player in his selection.

On May 11, 2011, Purdy received a Salvadoran passport. Before that, on March 17, 2011, Purdy was called up for two games in the Salvadoran national soccer team. However, the El Salvador football association had failed to request an exemption from Portland 15 days beforehand, according to the FIFA statutes. Because of this, the Timbers did not release Purdy.
