Steven Old (born February 17, 1986 in Palmerston North ) is a New Zealand football player .

Career

Old attended St. John's University in New York for two years and played for the local unit team. In 2005/06 he played in the New Zealand Football Championship for YoungHeart Manawatu before he was signed by the Australian A-League club Newcastle United Jets to replace Craig Deans . The following season Old was in the squad of the Wellington Phoenix , for which he came to twelve missions. At the end of the season he was released from his contract by Phoenix in order to come more regularly to missions and to prepare for the Olympic Games in Beijing under competitive conditions. In January 2009 he completed a trial training session with the Scottish first division club FC Kilmarnock and signed a contract at the end of March until summer 2012.

Old plays since 2004 in the senior national team of his country. He went through New Zealand's U-17 and U-20 selections and was part of the New Zealand Olympic selection (U-23) for the Olympic football tournament in China in 2008 . He was sent off the field after 39 minutes in the 1-1 opener against hosts China, the draw being New Zealand's only point win in the course of the tournament. In 2009, Old was part of the New Zealand squad at the Confederations Cup in South Africa, but remained unused in the preliminary round.

In 2003 and 2005, Old was voted New Zealand's International Young Player .
