Stiga is a Swedish company founded in 1934 , which was independent until 2000 and then merged into Global Garden Products (GGP) , with the name Stiga continuing to exist as a trademark. It manufactures sports products and garden tools. In 2007 there were around 320 employees at the Tranås headquarters and around 1300 across the group. In 2009, sales were around 5 billion Swedish kronor . After the renaming to Stiga Group and the relocation of the headquarters to Italy, the company now employs 1,750 people, 600 of them in Italy; the annual turnover is around 500 million euros.

history

Stiga was founded in 1934 by Stig Hjelmquist (* June 20, 1911, † 1985) under the name Firma Fabriksprodukter . In 1938 he renamed the company Stigma , later Stiga . The production of bullets started in 1941, and table tennis items such as tables, nets, balls and sticks and hockey games were added three years later . A little later, Stiga cooperated with the Swedish Table Tennis Association and thus promoted the success of the Swedish top table tennis players. In 1957 the range was expanded to include table hockey games , and in 1964 lawn mowers. In 1971 Stiga expanded abroad and opened sales offices in London and Helsinki.

In 1976, the new Stiga plant with 18,000 m 2 of King Carl XVI. Gustaf inaugurated. With a total area of ​​24,000 m 2 , it was the largest plant for the production of motorized lawnmowers in the Nordic countries. In 1981 the company was reorganized into three business areas according to the products: Sports, Arms and Garden.

In 1983 Stiga sold the table tennis division and shifted its focus to the production of garden tools. According to its own information, Stiga was the largest manufacturer of lawn mowers in Europe in the mid-1980s. In 1997, Stiga was represented in 40 countries including New Zealand , North America , South America and Eastern Europe .

In 2000, Stiga merged with several other companies to form Global Garden Products (GGP) .

In June 2017, the company announced that it was renaming itself the Stiga Group , the group now comprising the global Stiga brand and the local brands Alpina, Mountfield, ATCO and Castelgarden. The newly built headquarters has been located in Castelfranco Veneto (Italy) near Venice since June 2018 . According to its own information, the company has branches in 13 countries and production facilities in three ( Italy , Slovakia and China ) and sells more than a million products in more than 70 countries.

Stiga is a brand for lawn mowers and motorized garden tools such as lawn mowers, robotic lawnmowers, front mowers, lawn tractors, lawn trimmers, brushcutters, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, shredders, leaf blowers, scarifiers, tillers and bar mowers as well as cordless cordless tools.

Stiga Sport

The Stiga brand is also used today by the Swedish company Stiga Sports for the production of sports products, including table tennis, steering sleds and table hockey. Bengt Bandstigen founded the table tennis company BANDA in 1966 , which later became STIGA Sports AB . In 1983 the company began selling Stiga table tennis products and took over the STIGA Games division in 2006 .
