Stipe Miocic (born August 19, 1982 in Euclid ) is an American mixed martial arts fighter of Croatian origin and has been heavyweight division champion since UFC 241.

Career

Stipe Miocic was a successful amateur boxer and college wrestler in the first division of the NCAA . He completed his first MMA fight in 2010 at the advanced age of 27. After winning his first six fights early, he successfully debuted in October 2011 against Joey Beltran in the UFC . After two more victories, he suffered his first defeat in September 2012 against Stefan Struve . After victories over Roy Nelson , Gabriel Gonzaga and Fábio Maldonado , Miocic fought in December 2014 against ex-champion Junior dos Santos , to whom he was only barely defeated on points in a spectacular fight. After knockout successes against Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski , Miocic was allowed to fight UFC 198 for the UFC heavyweight title for the first time in May 2016 , but was only considered an outsider against defending champion Fabrício Werdum in his Brazilian homeland. However, it took less than three minutes until the arrogant Werdum ran into a counterattack by Miocic and was brutally knocked out. His first title defense completed Miocic in front of a home crowd in Cleveland at UFC 203 in September 2016. Here he succeeded against Alistair Overeem again a knockout win in the first round. In May 2017, Miocic defended his UFC 211 title in a rematch against Junior dos Santos, again by knockout in round one. At UFC 220 in January 2018, he defeated Francis Ngannou after five rounds and defended his title for the third time in a row, making him the most successful UFC Heavyweight Champion.

In his next title defense at UFC 226 against Daniel Cormier , the reigning light heavyweight title holder, Miocic surprisingly went KO in the first round, which he lost the heavyweight title. In 2019 Miocic won his rematch against champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 241 by a technical knockout in the fourth round and has been UFC Heavyweight Champion again since then.
