The Stockholm- class is named after the first ship in a series of two ships, Stockholm and Malmö , built by Kockums in Malmö . The Stockholm class is the fourth generation of a series of vehicles that began in the 1960s with the Spica torpedo boat . The Swedish Navy calls them corvettes , according to German standards they would have to be classified as speedboats .

The first vehicle, the Stockholm , was launched on August 22, 1984. The then Defense Minister Anders Thunborg was the godfather . The second vehicle, the Malmö , was launched on March 23, 1985 and was godfathered by Prince Bertil . After the test drives, the ships were put into service with the Swedish Navy on May 1, 1986. In 1999 they were modernized.
