Stockton is a village in Jo Daviess County , Illinois , United States . The area of Stockton is 2.0 km². The population was 1926 at the 2000 census .
History and location
The village of Stockton is the youngest parish in Jo Daviess County. It was created in 1886 after the Minnesota Northwestern Railroad had built a station in the Stockton Township district. This railway line no longer exists since the 1970s. The main street (Front Street) through Stockton was the busy road to Lena . Stockton is on US Route 20 , which runs from Freeport to Galena , and on State Highway 78 , which runs from Warren to Mount Carroll .
In 1914, the Kraft brothers opened a cheese factory that was owned by Kraft Cheese until it was sold in 1998 and is still part of the Stockton Cheese Company and produces for Kraft Foods.
