Run and landscape

The Straneggbach rises below the Eibenkogel on the western slope of the Hetzau, an eastern side valley of the Almtal . It then flows in a north to north-westerly direction through the Hetzau and passes the Almtaler Haus as well as the small and large Ödsee , whose underground drains it takes in. Below the Ödseen the Hintere and Vordere Springbach flow from the left.

The catchment area of  the Straneggbach measures 38 km², the highest point in it is the Great Priel at 2515  m above sea level. A.

ecology

The Straneggbach is relatively natural, quickly flowing and very structured. It has flat banks and numerous, partly wooded gravel banks . It has a pendulous, slightly meandering  course in sections . In the lower reaches it is up to 6 m wide. Over long stretches it has a wood accompanying the bank. The tree layer is up to 20 m high and consists mainly of common ash , red beech , alder and common spruce . Rare, highly specialized species of grasshoppers, such as the gravel bank grasshopper and the Turk's thorn insect, can be found on the dynamic gravel banks .
