The Stratos reservoir ( Greek τεχνητή λίμνη Στράτου ) is the third of four reservoirs in the course of the Acheloos River . It is located in the Aetolia-Acarnania prefecture of the West Greece region , north-northwest of the city of Agrinio and east of the town of Stratos and south of the city of Amfilochia . South of the Stratos Dam, built in 1989 ( Greek φράγμα Στράτου ), the national road 5 ( European route 951 ) runs from Ioannina in the north to Arta , Agrinio and Messolongi in the south.
The storage space of the lake is a minimum of 60 million m³ and a maximum of 70.2 million m³. The reservoir is primarily used to generate electricity; the total installed capacity of the four turbines is 150 MW. On the reservoir itself, a national water ski center has been set up by the Greek Federation for Water Skiing.
