Stuart Kornfeld

Stuart Arthur Kornfeld (born October 4, 1936 in St. Louis ) is an American hematologist at Washington University in St. Louis .

Live and act

Kornfeld earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover , New Hampshire in 1958 and an MD from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis , Missouri in 1962 . Kornfeld initially worked as an assistant doctor at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, interrupted by a position as a research assistant at the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases (now the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases ), a facility of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) . Kornfeld has been a member of the teaching staff at the Washington University School of Medicine since 1966, where he held numerous academic positions, most recently as professor of internal medicine.

Kornfeld is married and has three children.

Kornfeld and co-workers made important contributions to the explanation of how enzymes get to their destination (especially the lysosomes ) within a cell . There are also important findings on the pathogenesis of lysosomal storage diseases .
