Students for Christ
Students for Christ ( SfC for short ) Germany and Europe is a national and international network of Christians at universities , with the aim of motivating people to be a believable Christian that faces intellectual challenges and permeates all areas of life. The students for Christ are affiliated to the union of free church Pentecostal congregations .
History and structure
The association was founded in 1981 by Anita and John Koeshall at the Technical University in Munich . John Koeshall was sent to Germany in 1980 by the Christian organization Chi Alpha Campus Ministries.
In Germany there are currently groups at 13 university locations. The association is currently chaired by Kirk Priest. There is also a growing number of SfC groups in other European countries. The students come from the most varied of denominations and denominations, such as the Catholic and Protestant Church or the various Protestant free churches and communities . In addition to the SfC federal director, there is a regional director in the north-east and one in the south-west of Germany. The individual groups usually consist of a management team and the employees, as well as the visitors. The local groups are led by the students themselves, who volunteer their time. SfC is financed exclusively through donations and is legally organized as an eV . The SfC federal office is located in Waldkirch , near Freiburg im Breisgau .
Belief Base and Goals
In addition to the Apostles' Creed, the Nicano-Constantinopolitanum , which connects Christianity around the world , was chosen as the basis of faith . SfC is neither church nor community , but sees himself as a supplementary work, the work of the parishes to support locally. So none is from the SfC groups baptism performed, nor the Eucharist celebrated to not denominational or ecumenical hurting orientation.
SfC has the wish to cultivate a special openness for the Holy Spirit and the overriding goal:
- Introduce students at universities to Jesus Christ and pass on God's love to them
- strengthen believing students in their Christianity
- be a bridge to the churches and free churches together with the other Christian student work .
Principles are:
Worship , prayer , discipleship , fellowship and evangelism .
Events and offers
- Open evenings: These are weekly meetings of the individual university groups, mostly with music for worship , a special topic and subsequent fellowship.
- Discipleship groups and house groups : They serve for further personal exchange, prayer and faith growth.
- Actions of the individual groups, such as B. Excursions, bike tours, hikes, evangelistic outreaches and hut weekends
- Pastoral support for students
