The Student Village WHO is run by the Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim Adö.R. managed. With about 1700 dormitory places, it is the largest dormitory complex in Tübingen and consists of a total of 25 differently sized residential buildings, all of which are located on Fichtenweg. Most striking are the three high-rise buildings, which were red-brown until 2009 and are clearly visible from many points in Tübingen. There are other smaller buildings around these skyscrapers. The center of the dormitory is the community center in Fichtenweg 5, which houses both the dormitory administration and student interest groups such as the WHO village council , the WHO tutorial and the “Kuckuck” student bar. There is also a ballroom at Fichtenweg 5, which is used for various events. While in most buildings you can only rent individual rooms in shared flats without their own bathroom and kitchen, there are also 1-room apartments with their own bathroom in the low-rise buildings. One to three-room apartments can also be rented at Fichtenweg 9, which are primarily offered to families and single parents. The rooms in the renovated buildings have both cable and internet access. There is a kindergarten or day nursery for residents with children . The student representation also operates a “Dodo” common room (with internet, table football, newspapers, etc.), a punt and the “Kuckuck” student bar. The WHO tutorial offers the residents advice, regular play and cooking evenings and various excursions. The proportion of foreigners is 56.1% due to the large number of exchange students living here .

history

The WHO student village was built in the 1970s. In 1973 the high-rise buildings (Fichtenweg 3, 7, 15) were occupied for the first time. Plans to occupy Fichtenweg 7 with separate sexes were rejected again under pressure from the student representatives. By 1977 the low-rise buildings, house no. 1 in the winter semester 1993/94 and houses 29 and 31 in 1999, were completed and occupied. Since 2000, the houses in the village have been gradually renovated and modernized.

Transport links

The WHO student village is well connected to the public transport network. On weekdays every 5 minutes a bus connects the student village with the city center and every 10 minutes with the morning station . On all weekdays, the night buses N93 and N94 also drive to the student village until around 3 a.m.

The only road access to the student village WHO (Fichtenweg) is on the Berliner Ring opposite the indoor swimming pool North. The confluence of Fichtenweg leads past house no. 1 with its multi-storey car park and the access to Fichtenweg 5 (central dormitory administration) to the turning plate with further parking options.
