Subodh Mukherjee

Subodh Mukherjee ( Bengali : সুবোধ মুখার্জি, Subodh Mukhārji ; born April 14, 1921 in Jhansi , Uttar Pradesh ; † May 21, 2005 in Mumbai , Maharashtra ) was a Bengali Indian film producer and director of Hindi films .

He started as an assistant director for Gyan Mukherjees Chal Chal Re Naujawan in 1944 . It was the first film from the film production company Filmistan founded by Subodh Mukherjee's older brother Sashadhar . After working as a screenwriter for the company, he made his directorial debut with Munimji (1955), followed by Paying Guest (1957), a commercially successful flick starring Dev Anand .

Love Marriage (1959) was Mukherjee's first self- produced film under the Subodh Mukerji Productions label . This was followed by Junglee (1961) - the first Indian film in Eastmancolor and career start for Shammi Kapoor - and April Fool (1964). Subodh Mukherjee strictly adhered to the strategy of setting up films as light, romantic musicals and pure vehicles for the star's appearance. His last film production was in 1985.

Subodh Mukherjee died of leukemia on May 21, 2005 in Mumbai .
