Susan Jean "Sue" Woodstra (born May 21, 1957 in Colton , California ) is a former American volleyball player and coach.

Career

Sue Woodstra grew up in California and played in 1977 with the USC Trojans in Los Angeles , with whom she became national AIAW champion. In 1982, the attacker and defense specialist with the US national team came third at the World Cup in Peru and in 1983 second at the Pan American Games in Caracas . In 1984 the US team with Woodstra as captain won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles . She then played as a professional in Japan with the NEC Red Rockets, with whom she won the Japanese championship in 1988.

After her playing days, Woodstra was a volleyball coach, initially from 1989 to 1992 with the Lady Panthers in Pittsburgh . Then she coached the German Bundesliga club USC Münster in the 1993/94 season , with whom she won the CEV Cup in 1994 . She then returned to California and trained the California Golden Bears in Berkeley from 1995 to 2000 and the Lumberjacks in Arcata from 2000 to 2012 . In the meantime, Woodstra was assistant coach of the US national team from 2007 to 2008, which won the silver medal with her at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games .
