The Sugar Creek is a 72 km long right tributary of the Tuscarawas River in the northeastern US state of Ohio . It drains an area of 945 square kilometers and is part of the river system of the Mississippi River . It drains into the Gulf of Mexico via the Tuscarawas River, Muskingum River , Ohio River and Mississippi River .

Sugar Creek rises six kilometers north of the village of Wooster in central Wayne County at an altitude of 349 m. It flows generally in a south-easterly direction through the counties Wayne, Stark and Tuscarawas and reaches the confluence with the Tuscarawas River at a height of 270 m on the southwestern outskirts of Dover . Sandy Creek's major tributaries include Little Sugar Creek , North Fork Sugar Creek , Middle Fork Sugar Creek, and South Fork Sugar Creek . The catchment area of ​​Sugar Creek consists of 49% arable land, 28% forest and 18% meadows and pastures, while the remaining 5% is urbanized or consists of bodies of water and wetlands.

In 1936, the United States Army Corps of Engineers built the Beach City Dam , southeast of Beach City, just below the mouth of the South Fork, to protect against flooding and dam the 1.7 km² Beach City Lake .

According to the Geographic Names Information System , Sugar Creek has had several names throughout its history, including Margarets Creek and Margrets Creek .
