Suka K. Frederiksen

Suka Birgithe Kristiansen Frederiksen (born July 18, 1965 in Narsaq ; † July 21, 2020 there ) was a Greenlandic politician ( Siumut ).

Life

Suka K. Frederiksen was the daughter of the single parent Marianne Kristiansen. She was married to Sofus Frederiksen and had four children with him. Her eldest daughter, Katti Frederiksen (* 1982), with whom she was already pregnant when she was 16, is a writer and, as the successor to Carl Christian Olsen, the director of Oqaasileriffik .

Suka was a trained commercial and office assistant. In 2005 she was elected to the council of the municipality of Narsaq , from which she inevitably resigned with the administrative reform in 2009. In 2014 she was elected to the Inatsisartut . In October 2016 she became Minister for Independence, Nature, Environment and Agriculture in the Kielsen II cabinet . In April 2017 the Naalakkersuisut was restructured again and Suka K. Frederiksen was appointed Minister of Independence, Agriculture and Foreign Affairs. She was diagnosed with tongue cancer in late August 2017 . During her sick leave she was appointed Minister for Hunting and Fishing, Karl-Kristian Kruserepresented. She resumed her ministerial work on November 27, 2017. She did not run again for the 2018 parliamentary election.

Suka K. Frederiksen died after a long suffering three days after her 55th birthday in her hometown.
