Sulcorebutia azurduyensis is a species of plant in the genus Sulcorebutia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The species name goes back to the range of the plants around the village of Azurduy .

description

Sulcorebutia azurduyensis often sprouts and then forms large groups. The plant bodies reach a diameter of 1.5 to 2 centimeters (occasionally up to 4 centimeters) and stature heights of up to 1 centimeter. They have a 10 centimeter long beet root that branches out several times. The diamond-shaped areoles arranged on the top of the cusps are about 1 millimeter wide and up to 5 millimeters long. The thin, 15 to 21 radial spines are splayed to the side and are 4 to 8 millimeters long. They are white, whitish, yellowish or sometimes also brownish in color and more or less red-brown in color on the foot.

The olive green to brownish colored buds appear from the lower areoles on the plant body. The funnel-shaped flowers are 25 to 35 millimeters long and 35 millimeters in diameter. In culture, the flowers can reach a diameter of up to 50 millimeters. The spatulate outer petals are often notched at the tip and are yellowish, orange to reddish in color. They have a very clearly visible dark central nerve. The inner, spatulate to lanceolate petals are colored red, orange to almost yellow at the top and become lighter, orange, yellow to white towards the base. The freestanding greenish stylus is usually much lower than the uppermost filaments arranged. The yellowish to greenish scar usually has 6 scar branches.

The fruit forms a red, reddish, greenish or brownish pseudo-berry, which dries off when ripe and tears open equatorially. There are 25 to 35 seeds in the fruit.

distribution

Sulcorebutia azurduyensis is distributed in the Bolivian department of Chuquisaca in the province of Azurduy around the village of Azurduy at altitudes of 2500 to 3150 meters. Forms of Aylostera fiebrigii , a form of Lobivia chrysochete , Lobivia cinnabarina and Echinopsis mamillosa can be found as accompanying flora .
