The Adlerbrauerei G. Neff Sulzbach / Murr , usually called Sulzbacher Adlerbräu , was a brewery with a restaurant in Sulzbach an der Murr ( Baden-Württemberg ), which existed from 1865 to 1985.

history

In 1700 the brewery inn "Zum Adler" was built in Sulzbach . In 1865 the widow of the previous owner, Ludwig Krautter, married the brewer and cooper Georg Neff from Creglingen . His son Gustav Neff took over the business at the end of the 19th century and named the brewery after the inn in 1907; after his death in 1924 his sons Karl and Eugen continued to run the restaurant and brewery. In 1938 the inn was renovated and the decorative framework exposed, but demolished in 1963. As early as 1957, the barn , which was also built as a half-timbered house , fell victim to an extension to the brewery.

With 30 employees, 30,000  hectoliters of beer were produced per year and supplied to restaurants and beverage dealers within a 50 km radius  , bottled beer was also sold through house sales outlets. These small dealers gradually disappeared from the market and so this sale was discontinued in the late 1960s. It became more and more difficult to compete against large breweries - not least because there was a lack of expansion options to set up more efficient production. The name was changed to Adlerbrauerei Neff OHG in 1980. On October 1, 1984, the brewery was acquired by Stuttgarter Hofbräu and closed a year later after the beer still in stock had been sold. The brewery building was demolished in 1986.

Types of beer

Pils and export were brewed, and in winter also bock beer .
