The airport has two runways. The larger of the two is mainly used for international flights, the smaller for domestic flights and general aviation . The southern runway was renovated in 2011 and 2012, so only the northern one was in operation at times.

In 2011/12, the existing terminal was demolished and replaced by a temporary new building, and a new handling terminal was subsequently built on the site of the old building. The new terminal opened on schedule in July 2015. Terminal arrangement: Terminal 1 domestic flights, Terminal 2 international flights, Terminal 3 cargo flights.

Operating hours and facilities

In summer the airport is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and in winter from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The airport also has a parking garage, a business center, facilities for people with disabilities, a duty-free shop , an airport lounge , a taxi rank, a branch of the Korea Trade Bank , some souvenir shops and overhead lockers (operating from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; the Fee is 1.5 North Korean won per bag). Airlines and Destinations

Air Koryo, based here, currently offers regular scheduled flights to Beijing , Shenyang , Shanghai and Vladivostok . Domestic destinations and other destinations in Asia and Russia are also served irregularly. Air China was the only other airline to fly three times a week from Beijing to Pyongyang from January 2, 2008 to April 14, 2017. China Southern Airlines and Aeroflot had previously suspended their connections to North Korea due to lack of capacity. Air China resumed its flights on June 6, 2018 after holding talks with China on several occasions . Beijing will continue to be served three times a week.

There are also irregular charter flights , most of which go to South Korea , China and Russia . In addition to Air Koryo, these are carried out by Korean Air , for example .

Domestic flights are possible to, for example, Ch'ŏngjin Airport or Sinŭiju Airport .
