Sunnenrüti, southern part

The Sunnenrüti (also: Sonnenrüti , Sunnarüti ) is a former fraction of the former Grisons municipality of Langwies in Schanfigg near Arosa , located at 1450  m . It is located to the right of the Plessur on a moraine ridge at kilometer 23 on Schanfiggerstrasse , between Langwies Platz and Litzirüti . The Sunnenrüti has been part of the Arosa municipality since the beginning of 2013.

description

Northern part

Like the entire scattered settlement Langwies, the place was settled by Walsers in the 13th and 14th centuries . It consists of individual farms and a few holiday homes. The diverse, originally preserved Walser houses are typical of the townscape . Even today, the town with around 30 inhabitants lives almost exclusively from agriculture . The Sunnenrüti has neither a shop nor a restaurant or a church. As in all communities in Schanfigg , the official language is German , the colloquial language is Walser German .

Development

In contrast to Litzirüti and Langwies Platz, the Sunnenrüti is not served by the Arosabahn , as it runs continuously on the left side of the valley up to the Langwieser Viaduct . In contrast, the place has been developed with the cantonal connection road Chur - Arosa, the Schanfiggerstrasse, since 1890 . At the highest point of the Sunnenrüti, a largely unpaved connecting road branches off to the east, which opens up the Alpine settlements of Rongg and Medergen via Stritwald and Waldji . A hiking trail above Schanfiggerstrasse, the so-called summer trail to the Langwies sawmill, is a remnant of the former Langwies-Arosa mule track . The meadows of the Sunnenrüti are preferred spectator fields for the Arosa ClassicCar mountain race , which passes here.

etymology

Walserhaus in the Sunnenrüti

The name "Sunnenrüti" refers to "the clearing of the forest on the sunny side " and thus represents the counterpart to the Litzirüti , which is further up the valley on the Litzi side, i.e. the shady side of the upper Schanfigg.

Varia

The Sunnenrüti was or is the place of residence of the former national ice hockey player Jöri Mattli and of Kathrin Sprecher, winner of the 2011 country woman's kitchen on Swiss television and host of Federal President Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf on the occasion of the traditional August 1st 2012 brunch at Sunnenrüti.
