The hotel group employs around 400 people and generated sales of around 48 million Swiss francs in the 2016/17 financial year.
Field of activity
The group of companies mainly focuses on four-star hotels in the cantons of Graubünden , Bernese Oberland , Valais , Ticino and Piedmont , which it operates under the Sunstar Hotels brand.
history
The company was founded in 1969 by Fritz Buser and Ernst Rieder. In the same year it took in Davos the first hotel in operation, the 1970 one in Lenzerheide , 1971 one in Grindelwald and 1973 another in Davos followed.
Due to the sharp rise in building costs and land prices in the mid-1970s, Sunstar had to abandon its business policy of building a hotel every year for profit considerations. The company therefore concentrated on hotels in trouble and subsequently acquired one hotel each in Flims (1977), Villars (1979) and Wengen (1981).
After a lengthy consolidation phase, Sunstar resumed its expansion in 1998 and took over a hotel in Arosa . At the same time the group of companies entered the timeshare industry . In 2003 Sunstar sold the hotel in Villars and one year later acquired one in Klosters , one in Zermatt in 2010 and one in Saas-Fee in 2011 . As of May 1, 2013, Sunstar integrated the two Privilège Hotels "Villa Caesar" in Brissago and "Castello di Villa" in Piedmont into the Sunstar Group.
