Susan Silver

Susan Jean Silver (born July 17, 1958 in Seattle ) is an American music manager who became known as the manager of Seattle rock and grunge bands such as Soundgarden , Alice in Chains and Screaming Trees . Silver also owns Susan Silver Management and The Crocodile Club in Seattle.

biography

Silver was born on July 17, 1958 in Seattle, Washington, and was the eldest of three children of Samuel and Emmogene (Jean) Silver.

Silver studied Chinese at the University of Washington .

Silver began working as a music manager in 1983. Her first customers were the bands The U-Men and First Thought. In 1985, Silver met Soundgarden , whose lead singer was her boyfriend at the time, Chris Cornell , and the following year she began managing the band. At that time, Silver was also working for Screaming Trees .

Silver's customers in the 1990s included Alice in Chains , Hater, Inflatable Soule, Crackerbox, Sweet Water, Sponge, singer Kristen Barry, and record producer Terry Date .

Since 2009 Silver has been co-manager of Alice in Chains alongside David Benveniste with his company Velvet Hammer Management.

Other ventures

Silver has co-owned The Crocodile Club in Seattle since 2009 with Sean Kinney , Alice in Chains drummer ; the co-founder of the Capitol Hill Block Party, Marcus Charles; Peggy Curtis; and Portugal. The Man guitarist Eric Howk.

Private life

In 1985 Silver began dating Chris Cornell , the lead singer for Soundgarden , the band she managed a year later, and they married in 1990. Cornell wrote Moonchild from his debut solo album, Euphoria Morning, for Silver. The couple's first and only child, a daughter named Lillian Jean, was born in June 2000. Silver and Cornell divorced in 2004.

At a press conference in 2002, asked for his hero, called the singer and guitarist of Alice in Chains , Jerry Cantrell , Silver as one of his heroes. Cantrell also thanked Silver for receiving the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award in his speech at the MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit on May 31, 2012.
