The Suzuki GSX 1100 F is a motorcycle in the sport touring category and, because of its dimensions and weight, is one of the representatives of (partially or fully faired) big bikes (over 1000 cm³).

concept

With the GSX 1100 EF, a new generation was built from 1984 to 1986 as a continuation of the GS models. New items were Suzuki Power Shield, Suzuki Advanced Cooling System, a new combustion system (TSCC), fully transistorized ignition and a full floater rear suspension.

With the GSX 1100 F, Suzuki expanded its model range from 1987 to 1994 with motorcycles suitable for everyday use and touring. After the start of series production in autumn 1987, the sports tourer had to be revised in the first year, which made it difficult to start sales. From 1989 a swing arm lengthened by 25 mm, a flatter steering head and two additional struts were installed on the frame for stabilization. This solved the teething problems.

The GSX 1100 F is often seen as the big sister of the Suzuki GSX 750 F among Suzuki drivers . This is due to the almost identical styling, similar engine concept, as well as the design suitable for sports touring.

Model history

The GSX 1100 F was manufactured from 1987 to 1994. This corresponds to the Suzuki years J to R. At the beginning, the GSX 1100 F was offered in two versions, the GSX 1100 J and the GSX 1100 FJ. The undercover has been omitted from the J model. The GSX 1100 FJ was the model with the full fairing. From 1988 the model without "F" was discontinued, so that only GSX 1100 F followed with the respective year code (Suzuki year code J - R) were sold. Sales lasted until 1996. In addition to the official imports, some machines came to Germany from other European countries and the USA.

The 1100 cm³ air / oil-cooled engine goes back to the first generation of the GSX-R models. The GSX-R engine with 1085 cm³ has been expanded to 1127 cm³ for the GSX 1100 F and designed to be suitable for tours thanks to the camshafts. After that, the GSX-R also received the 1127 cm³ engine, with sporty camshafts. Bore and stroke are largely identical to the GSX-R 1100 models.

The chassis and engine have been designed for durability (100,000 km are not uncommon) and for touring. There were no major modifications except those mentioned in the short model life. So you limited yourself to the color design.

equipment

Due to the relatively short model life, there are only a few accessories on the market for the GSX 1100 F. The Gimbel company produces half-shell cladding for the F-model, suitcase and topcase racks are available from the usual companies for motorcycle luggage racks. Some manufacturers of exhaust systems ready 4in1-, 4in2- or 4in2in1 systems for F . At times, a sporty footrest system from Gimbel was also offered. The rest is limited to touring windscreens, handlebar conversions, fork springs, struts, windshields and non-model-specific accessories from various providers.
