Suzy Delair (* around December 31, 1917 in Paris ; † March 15, 2020 there ; born Suzanne Pierrette Delaire ) was a French actress and singer .

Life

Delair, who began an apprenticeship as a milliner at the age of 13 , decided to go to the theater and played in the company Renaud - Barrault , among others . She toured as far as Lebanon, Egypt, the USA and Canada. She also took on film roles from the age of 14. It became known especially during the time of the German occupation in World War II. She starred in several films under the director Henri-Georges Clouzot , including in 1947 in Under False Suspicions as an ambitious Music Hall singer. In later years she was mostly a series actress. During her film career, Delair worked with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, among others, on their last feature film Atoll K , in which she played a bigger role as nightclub singer Chérie Lamour . She also took on roles in Luchino Visconti's classic film Rocco and his Brothers alongside Alain Delon and in the comedy The Adventures of Rabbi Jacob at the side of Louis de Funès . She last stood in front of the camera in 1987 for the French television series Traquenards .

Delair also made a name for herself as a singer in revues and operettas, for example in pieces such as Pariser Leben and La Périchole . She was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for her recordings of arias from Jacques Offenbach's operettas . Suzy Delair died in March 2020 at the age of 102.
