The rural community Svalbarð ( Icelandic Svalbarðshreppur ) is located in northeast Iceland in the region Norðurland eystra on Þistilfjörður .
On January 1, 2019, the sparsely populated, 1155 km² community had 91 inhabitants. The seat of the municipal administration is in Þórshöfn in the neighboring municipality of Langanesbyggð .
Geography and location
In the west is the municipality of Norðurþing , in the east Langanesbyggð . The northern part of the municipality is located on Þistilfjörður . Svalbarðsá , Sandá , Hölkná and Hafralónsá are well-known salmon rivers. The 703 m high mountain Svalbarðsnúpur is located south of the town of Svalbarð.
