Svein Krøvel (born May 12, 1946 - December 29, 2011 ) was a Norwegian cameraman .

Life

Svein Krøvel was born the son of a musician and, due to the financially insecure life of his father, decided early on against a career in art, which is why he originally wanted to become an engineer. He then attended a technical school, where he was trained as a structural engineer. During an internship in Voldsløkka, however, he decided against this career and, after consulting his father, tried his hand at various artistic crafts before he ended up with camera work. Therefore, from 1968 he attended the Foto- og dokumentärfilmskolan in Stockholm and learned his trade under the “very strict” photographer Christer Strömholm . During his studies, Krøvel commuted between Stockholm and Oslo and worked as a camera assistant.

After Krøvel made his debut as chief cameraman with the 1976 drama Heksene fra den forstenede skog , he worked with well-known directors such as Knut Erik Jensen , Torun Lian and Petter Næss . His internationally best known works are Elling , Tsatsiki - Friends forever and Mozart and the whale .
