Sven Boltenstern

Sven Boltenstern (born July 24, 1932 in Vienna ; † September 3, 2019 ) was an Austrian goldsmith and sculptor .

life and work

Sven Boltenstern was the youngest child of the architect Erich Boltenstern (1896–1991) and the painter Elisabeth Szupper (1905–1982). His mother was from Hungary. His paternal grandmother, Louise Boltenstern geb. Godina (1867–1928) was an opera singer. He had three siblings, Erich, born in 1926, later an architect like his father, Elisabeth, born in 1927, later married Augustin and Helene, born 1930, later married Bernheimer. He graduated from high school and then completed an apprenticeship as a goldsmith in the traditional Godina jewelry store. At the same time, he attended lectures at the Academy for Applied Arts in Vienna. In 1956 he passed the master's examination, after which he studied in Paris at the Ecole supérieure des arts décoratifs . From 1957 he worked for the traditional jeweler Julius Hügler in Vienna. In 1964 he started his own business.

The Boltenstern objects were mostly one-offs. He has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including in 1972 in the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts , in 1993 and 2004 in the Vienna Künstlerhaus .

His daughter Marie became a jewelry designer and runs the family's business on Vienna's Bräunerstraße . She has made a name for herself internationally as a designer of jewelry made from 3D printers .
