Life

After graduating from high school in 1996, Kohlmeier studied law at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1997 to 2003 . From 2003 to 2005 he completed his legal clerkship at the Cottbus Regional Court and passed the second state examination in law . Kohlmeier has been working as an independent lawyer since 2005 .

politics

From 1995 to 1997 Sven Kohlmeier was co-founder and deputy chairman of the youth parliament in Hellersdorf . In 1999 he was elected to the district assembly of Berlin-Hellersdorf, to which he belonged until the 2001 elections in Berlin. The SPD Marzahn-Hellersdorf put Kohlmeier on again for the district assembly (list position 2), so that from 2001 to 2006 he was a member of the district assembly of the newly merged district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf . There Kohlmeier was active in youth and budget policy and acted as parliamentary leader of the SPD parliamentary group.

In 2006 Kohlmeier was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives via the district list of the SPD Marzahn-Hellersdorf.

In the following election of the members of the House of Representatives in 2011, he won the direct mandate for constituency 6 (Kaulsdorf-Nord / Hellersdorf-Süd) in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district with 33.4% of the votes cast . In the following coalition negotiations between CDU and SPD, he worked in the field of internal affairs and law.

In 2016 he was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives for the third time via the district list. He is chairman of working group 1 Interior / Law / Sport of the SPD parliamentary group in the House of Representatives. Kohlmeier is his parliamentary group's spokesman for legal policy, network policy and data protection. He is a member of the following committees:

  • Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Rules of Procedure, Consumer Protection, Anti-Discrimination
  • Internal affairs, security and order, digital administration, data protection, freedom of information and for the implementation of Article 13 (6) of the Basic Law and Section 25 (10) of the ASOG
  • Subcommittee on data protection, freedom of information and for the implementation of Article 13 (6) of the Basic Law and Section 25 (10) of the ASOG

In 2016 he participated in the Red-Red-Greens coalition negotiations in the working group for home affairs / law and as head of the legal / consumer protection working group. For him, the working group on home affairs / law was one of the key working groups. His aim is to ensure a safe and peaceful coexistence in Berlin, how to prevent crime in the growing city and how to convict offenders quickly. The digitization of the Berlin judiciary was also a key issue in the negotiations. The court proceedings in Berlin are taking too long. Even with simple procedures at the local courts, the parties sometimes have to wait several months, in extreme cases even years, for an appointment and thus a first hearing. A long period of legal uncertainty in which a dispute is not resolved.

In the affair surrounding State Secretary Andrej Holm in 2017, Kohlmeier was the first prominent Social Democrat to call for the State Secretary to resign. He justified this with his GDR biography and the intransparent way Holms dealt with his full-time Stasi work at the end of the GDR. The taz journalist Erik Peter described this requirement as “no coincidence” given the fact that Kohlmeier's law firm advertises itself on its website as a “partner for real estate investment in Berlin”. Even Frank Rieger , a spokesman for the Chaos Computer Club (CCC), highlighted the interdependence of the Berlin SPD in the affair Holm. The spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group has rejected this connection as false.

Political party

Sven Kohlmeier joined the SPD in 1994 in Hellersdorf. In 1996 he founded the Juso district association Marzahn-Hellersdorf with other Jusos and held an office as Juso spokesman until 2000. After he was deputy district chairman of the SPD Marzahn-Hellersdorf from 2000 to 2004, he was elected in 2004 as the youngest district chairman of the Berlin SPD. He was confirmed twice in this office before Kohlmeier gave it up at the beginning of 2009 for private reasons.
