Sven Noppes (born March 21, 1976 in Esslingen am Neckar ) is a German chess organizer and chess referee .

Chess organizer

As chairman of the Schachfreunde Deizisau chess club, Noppes has been organizing the Neckar Open since 1997 , an international chess tournament that is held every year over Easter in his home town of Deizisau . Under his leadership, the tournament has developed over the years into the largest in Germany with a classic time to think about it and one of the largest in the world. The previous record of 764 participants was reached in 2012.

In 2005, Noppes took over the position of team boss of the men's chess Bundesliga team at OSG Baden-Baden . After the unsuccessful attempts to win the title of German team champion , Baden-Baden was able to win the title for the first time in the 2005/06 season and has defended it every year since then until the 2011/12 season . The team has also been competing in the annual European Club Cup since 2007 .

In June 2007 Noppes was elected vice-president of the newly founded association "Schachbundesliga eV". He held this position for a year. The club has been organizing the 1st Bundesliga since the 2008/09 season in place of the German Chess Federation .

Chess referee

Noppes is qualified as a FIDE referee of the World Chess Federation . From 1999 to 2007 he was the chief referee of the rapid chess tournaments Chess Classic, held in Frankfurt am Main and Mainz . Until his appointment as team boss of OSG Baden-Baden in 2005, Noppes was a referee in the German Chess League.
