Sven Pettersson (ball athlete)

Sven Pettersson (born September 22, 1933 ) is a Swedish former athlete . In both handball and football , he played in the highest Swedish league and was twice national handball champion.

Career

Pettersson competed for Ystads IF in both sports, the greatest success was in 1954, third place with the handball team in the then first-class Allsvenskan . When Erik Persson , the coach of Helsingborgs IF , temporarily helped out with the fifth-rate football team in 1956 , he discovered the young player and used him in a friendly against Manchester United . In the 2-5 defeat, he convinced and moved to the club from Helsingborg . As a result, he also changed the handball club and joined Vikingarnas IF . In his first season at HIF, the Fotbollsallsvenskan 1956/57 , he was a regular on the team that played out third place in the table. With good performances in the following season 1957/58 , in which he scored 20 goals this season, he played his way into the Swedish B national team, for which he played two internationals . In 1960 he moved to local rivals Råå IF .

As the team captain of Vikingarnas IF he was instrumental in the club's promotion to the first division in 1960 and the subsequent championship win. In 1963 he left the club and moved to third division IS Göta . With his new club he reached the Allsvenskan in 1965 and won the championship title as a climber. Later he moved on to the lower class playing HF Olympia and ended his career with HK Gubbarna Wargo from Landskrona . As a senior player he returned to Vikingarnas IF and in 1978 won the senior championship again.
