Sven Ratke (born January 3, 1972 in Niesky ) is a former German soccer player and today's soccer coach. With Dynamo Dresden in 1990 he was champion in the GDR Oberliga and FDGB cup winner.

Career

Sven Ratke's career began with SG Dynamo Görlitz, later he moved to BSG Motor Niesky. From 1984 he played in the youth of Dynamo Dresden . In 1988 he was GDR youth champion. On March 17, 1990, the then 18-year-old made his first appearance in the GDR league . In the further course of the season he came to some missions, mostly as a substitute. On the last day of the match he scored his first goal for Dresden in the major league. It was the 3-1 final score in the game against Lok Leipzig that meant the championship. In the same year they were also FDGB Cup winners . In the final, Ratke came on for Matthias Döschner in the 74th minute . In the following season, Ratke and his club competed in the European Cup. He played five times in this competition and scored one goal. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Dynamo finished second in the league and qualified for the Bundesliga , as the leagues of the former GDR were dissolved. Until 1995 Ratke played 48 times for Dresden in the Bundesliga, 32 of them as a "joker" and scored one goal.

For the 1995/96 season he moved to SV Lurup in the Regionalliga Nord . In winter he left the club and went to VfL Wolfsburg in the 2nd Bundesliga . He succeeded his coach Willi Reimann , who started at VfL Wolfsburg in October 1995 and previously coached SV Lurup. Ratke initially held a regular position at VfL, but lost it again in 1996/97. In 1997 he rose to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. On the last day of the match there was a promotion final between Wolfsburg (3rd place) and 1. FSV Mainz 05 (4th place). Ratke, who had only played 12 times during the playing time, was brought on by Willi Reimann in the 68th minute and scored the 5-3 in the 76th minute. The game ended with 5: 4 goals after Sven Demandt was able to shorten again in the 88th minute. With that Wolfsburg had risen. After the first Bundesliga year Ratke received no new contract in 1998. He was then reported as access to FC Energie Cottbus , but left the team before the first training session and finally joined the lower class VfB Hellerau-Klotzsche for one season.

From 1999 he was active for the Dresdner SC in the Regionalliga Nordost . After the North and Northeast squadrons were merged, Ratke played with DSC in the Regionalliga Nord. In qualifying for this league, eleven teams were relegated to the upper league in 1999/00, which the Dresdner SC reached with a second place, Ratke had his share as a regular player. After a season in mid-table, the club was relegated in 2001/02 and Ratke moved to his ex-club Dynamo Dresden . At this time Ratke was suffering from cartilage damage in the knee joint and could not play a game for nine months. On October 9, 2002, he came on as a substitute for the Sachsenpokal, making his comeback, which ended with a dismissal after two minutes. After Dynamo's promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2004, he ended his career because of knee problems. He then worked as an assistant coach for the second team and as a youth coach at SGD .
