history

The club was founded in 2011 as part of the introduction of the Big Bash League . On April 6, 2011, they were presented along with the other teams in the league and assigned the color pink . As a stadium, they were assigned the Sydney Cricket Ground and thus the stadium of the team from New South Wales . Stuart Clark was appointed General Manager . As captain was Brad Haddin appointed. In the preliminary round of the first season they reached third place and played in the semifinals against the Hobart Hurricanes that they won with seven runs . In the final they met the Perth Scorchers , against whom they could prevail with seven wickets and thus won the championship. This qualified them for the Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa . There they were able to win their preliminary group and prevail in the semifinals against the South African franchise Titans . In the final they met the Lions team, also from South Africa , against whom they were able to prevail with 10 wickets and thus won the title.

After winning the title in the old season, the team originally wanted to strengthen itself with Umar Akmal , but after there were disagreements with the Pakistani association about the operating times, the contract was terminated. In the season you could only win three games and so placed seventh and penultimate place.

There were only a few signings before the new 2013/14 season . There were six wins in the preliminary round and so they qualified second for the semi-finals. There they met the Perth Scorchers and lost with 5 runs ( D / L ).

Before the season started, the Sixers received a fine for signing a player within the embargo period. The most important new signing was Dwayne Smith . During the season you could qualify as fourth for the semi-finals. The encounter there against the Adelaide Strikers could be won with 87 runs and so you met the defending champion, the Perth Scorchers, in the final. However, they were also defeated this year against Perth and lost the game with four wickets.

The 2015/16 season went badly. So they lost to their city rivals for the first time and only scored two wins in the season. The result was the last place in the table.
