Synagogue (Eich)
The synagogue in Eich , a local parish in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in 1890. The derelict synagogue at Altrheinstrasse 20 is a protected cultural monument .
history
A prayer room was probably already in place before the synagogue was built. The square brick building has a representative entrance facade with corner pilasters and a neo-Gothic portal with gable roofing. The mandatory boards are on the top of the gable of the hipped roof . The neo-Romanesque windows are spanned by round arches, which immediately reveal the former synagogue as a sacred building .
After most of the Jews moved away, the synagogue building was sold by the Jewish community in 1936. It was initially used as a storage room and later converted into a residential building. During the November pogrom of 1938 , the derelict synagogue was therefore not desecrated by the National Socialists.
