Synagogue in Wallerfangen

The synagogue in Wallerfangen , a municipality in the Saarlouis district in Saarland , was built in 1892/93. The building of the former synagogue at Gartenstrasse 2 has been a protected architectural monument since 1990 .

history

A synagogue in Wallerfangen existed in 1817 "for a long time". In 1838 a new building was built. This was bought by the Villeroy & Boch porcelain factory in 1890 in order to expand the company premises. As a replacement, Villeroy & Boch had a new synagogue building built in 1892. February 1893 was inaugurated with great festivity and with the active participation of the Wallerfanger Christians.

The Wallerfangen synagogue was abandoned before 1935 and initially used as a warehouse.

The New Apostolic Church leased the synagogue building in 1950 and bought it from the Saar synagogue community after 1956. The current church building was last renovated in 2004.

architecture

The small hall building with a flat gable roof had a small apse on the east side , in which the Torah shrine was located. The long side has two axes with arched windows. The original entrance was on the gable side under an arched window. The entrance was moved, but the window was retained. The plastered building is decorated with corner blocks.
