Synagogue (Nalbach)
The synagogue in Nalbach , a municipality in the Saarlouis district in Saarland , was probably built in 1853/54. The synagogue , which opened on 20./21. October 1854 was inaugurated, was at Mittelstrasse 17.
History and description
The synagogue was a small longitudinal hall with a gable roof about 6.30 m wide and about 10.70 m long. The entrance facade with three oculi in the tail gable and the semicircular shell niche, which is reminiscent of Flemish or Dutch baroque architecture , was striking . It is unclear whether the style elements date back to 1854 or to the renovation after the fire on November 27, 1891.
As the number of Jewish community members fell sharply during the National Socialist era, the synagogue was sold in 1937. Nevertheless, the remaining furnishings of the synagogue were demolished during the November pogrom in 1938 . During the Second World War , the synagogue building was damaged by artillery fire in 1944/45, but could still be used as a warehouse for agricultural products until it was demolished in 1950/51.
