Synchronicity is The Police's fifth and final studio album , released in June 1983 on A&M Records . The album was included in the anthology of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die .
Origin and style
The album is inspired by Arthur Koestler 's book The Roots of Coincidence , which in turn takes up Carl Gustav Jung's theory of synchronicity . Sting had read Koestler in his youth. The album was recorded in the winter of 1982 in London , Montserrat and Québec . Drummer Copeland played in a room that was connected to the studio in Quebec via " CCTV ". There were also discussions about his style, Copeland's drum tracks were almost thrown away. The ballad Every Breath You Take became a hit.
reception
On the website Allmusic.com , Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that the hits on the album were among the best that Sting would have written, but also made it clear that he was ready for a solo career. It awarded four and a half stars out of five.
